East 17 Band
He started his career in the 1990s by becoming a member of the boy band East 17. He was a part of the band until 1997 and gave seven top-ten singles and four hit albums.
In 1997 the group disbanded due to negative media coverage, and Tony turned to songwriting. In 1998 the band was re-formed without Tony and released two singles. However, the band was again disbanded the next year.
When Tony was part of the band, he wrote Childliners The Gift of Christmas, a charity single. In 2010 band was re-formed again but without the lead singer.
Later on, The position of lead singer was filled in 2011 by Blair Dreelan. Then the band released the single Secret of My Life, the projected album Recharged.
However, after the release of the song, Blair left the band due to a contractual obligation. So East 17 scrapped the album and released the newly recorded album Dark Light, with Mortimer in place as the lead vocalist.
From 2011 to early 2012, the band toured Europe. In June 2012, the band returned to Australia for the first time in over 15 years.
On their return, they released two singles, I Can’t Get You Off My Mind and Friday Night. In early 2014, Tony departed from East 17 to focus more on his solo career.
