Les McKeown’s full name is Leslie Richard McKeown. But most people know him by the name Les McKeown.

Les McKeown Early Life
He was born on 12 November 1955 in Broomhouse, Edinburgh. His father, Francis, was a tailor, and his mother, Florence, was a seamstress. Moreover, his father was deaf.
So the family communicated with Francis through hand signals. He was raised in a city tenement block, and he attended Forrester High School.
McKeown left the school at the age of 15 and became a member of the band Threshold. Furthermore, he was also employed at a paper mill in between the group’s gigs.

McKeown joined the band Bay City Rollers in November 1973. In starting, he was reluctant to join the group because Bay City Rollers was not his top priority, but later on, he joined the band.
The band was founded in the mid-1960s but only achieved popularity after McKeown joined. Moreover, the band had four songs in the Top ten in 1974, including songs Remember, Summerlove Sensation, All of Me Loves All of You and Shang-a-Lang.
In all the above four songs, McKeown was featured as a frontman. In 1975 their song Saturday Night was the US number one song.
During this time, Les McKeown told that he was raped by their manager, Tam Paton and that Paton provided him with Mandrax and amphetamines to help him cope with the pressures of touring.
In 1978, he left the group as the band’s popularity began to decline. In 1979 he established the pop band Egotrip and released a solo album, All Washed Up.
Later on, he released eight more albums. In 2015 he rejoined the Bay City Rollers for a series of reunion shows. The first reunion show gets sold out just in three minutes. Les released his final album, The Lost Songs, in 2016.

He was married, and his wife’s name was Peko Keiko. He met Peko in 1978 and got married to her after five years. Moreover, they had one child together named Jubei, also known as Richard.
In 2008, he was admitted to a treatment facility in California. He stayed there for four months to successfully overcome his addiction to alcohol.
Once in a TV show, he admitted that he was a secret bisexual and admitted being unfaithful to his wife with both men and women.
In 1975 he killed an elderly neighbor because of reckless driving, due to which he was banned from driving for one year and fined £100.
Later on, he revealed how his guilt for that event played a crucial role in his alcoholism. In 2005 he was found to have been driving while drunk at a speed twice the legal limit. Furthermore, he left the scene of an accident. This time he was consequently banned for 18 months and fined £1,000.

He died at the age of 65 on 20 April 2021. Moreover, as per reports, the reason for his death is a combination of natural causes, including heart disease and the long-term effects of excessive drug and alcohol use.
