John Hinckley Early Life
He was born on 29 May 1955 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. John was born into a wealthy family. Moreover, by the age of 4, he moved with his family to Dallas, Texas.
John’s father, John Warnock Hinckley, was the chairman and president of Vanderbilt Energy Corporation, and his mother, Jo Ann Hinckley was a homemaker.
He has attended Highland Park High School in Dallas County. After completing school, he enrolled himself in Texas Tech University.
From 1974 to 1980, he remained an off-and-on student and finally dropped out. He moved to Los Angeles in 1975 to become a songwriter.
However, he was not able to succeed in that. So he writes a letter to his parents and pleas for money. Later on, in 1976, he returned to his parent’s house in Evergreen.
In early 1980, John purchased some weapons and started practicing them. Furthermore, during this time, he was even prescribed tranquilizers and anti-depressants to deal with his emotional problems.

John became obsessed with actress Jodie Foster after seeing her in the movie Taxi Driver in 1976. He was very much infatuated with her that when Jodie entered Yale University, John also moved to New Haven, Connecticut, to stalk her.
John starts sending Jodie love letters and romantic poems. But when he could not develop any contact with her, he started fantasizing about committing suicide by conducting an aircraft hijacking in front of Jodie to get her attention.
Moreover, later on, he decided to impress Jodie by assassinating the president. He trailed President Jimmy Carter from state to state and was later on arrested on firearm charges.
After getting the release, he returned home. However, even after getting psychiatric treatment, his mental health did not improve.
Due to this, he decided to assassinate the newly elected president Ronald Reagan. On 30 March 1981, he fired six times at Ronald Reagan as he left Hilton Hotel after a conference.
Furthermore, before doing this, he wrote a letter to Jodie in which he tells about how he sends letters to her and was never able to have enough confidence to approach her. So now he is going to assassinate the president to impress her.
After doing this, John was arrested and charged with 13 offenses. However, he was not found guilty due to the reason of insanity.
In August 1981, he was shifted to psychiatric care from the Bureau of Prisons custody. Later on, a lot of things went on inside and outside the court, but eventually, he was admitted to St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C, for the treatment of narcissistic and schizotypal personality disorder.
For more than fifteen years, he remained in the hospital while getting treatment, and finally, on 27 July 2016, he was released from the hospital as he was no longer a threat to himself or others.

From a young age, John aspires to be a songwriter. So after a long time, he posted music anonymously on the internet, which received little interest from the audience.
Later on, in October 2020, the court stated that he could display and market his artwork, writings, and music publicly under his own name.
So he created his self-titled YouTube channel John Hinckley and on 12 December 2020, he uploaded his first original song.
Till now, he has uploaded more than 35 videos on his channel, which include videos of himself performing original songs with a guitar and covers of other singers’ songs.
Currently, his channel has more than 31K subscribers. In 2021, John announced that he was working on an album and looking for record labels to release that album.
