He was born on March 20, 1988, in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is of Puerto Rican descent and has two sisters named Sianney and Angelise.
Danny grew up in a tough neighborhood and was introduced to boxing by his father, Ángel, at the age of 10. He joined the Harrowgate Boxing Club and started competing as an amateur.
