Military Career
In 1996 at the age of 18, he joined the Australian Army. Moreover, after completing basic training at Blamey Barracks, Ben underwent initial employment training at the School of Infantry at Lone Pine Barracks in Singleton, New South Wales.
Later on, he was posted to the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Holsworthy. Initially, he was a part of the rifle company but later on, he became a section leader in the Direct Fire Support Weapons Platoon.
In 1999, he became a part of the International Force East Timor for the first time. In 2003, he completed his Special Air Service Regiment selection course and got posted to 3 Squadron at Campbell Barracks.
Later on, in 2004, he took part in operations off Fiji. Moreover, from 2005 to 2006, he was a part of personal security detachments in Iraq.
On six occasions, Ben was deployed to Afghanistan, out of which two were in 2006 and 2007. In 2009, he completed his junior leadership training and was posted to 2 Squadron as a patrol 2IC. He was also a part of the training and assistance teams throughout Southeast Asia.
Ben returned to Afghanistan in 2009, 2010, and 2012. In 2013, at the age of 35, he left the full-time Army with the rank of corporal and started serving part-time with the Army Reserve until 2015.
Civilian Career
In 2013, Ben launched his own consultancy, RS Group Australia. Through this company, he provides advice to various national clients on multiple topics related to corporate culture, strategic restructuring, and change management.
Moreover, after leaving the Army, The University of Queensland provided him a scholarship to study a Master of Business Administration and set up a program to support other elite SAS soldiers transitioning to a corporate career.
In April 2015, he was appointed deputy general manager of the regional television network Seven Queensland by Seven Network.
Moreover, after two months, he was promoted to GM Seven Queensland. In April 2016, he became the general manager of Seven Brisbane.
In April 2021, Ben temporarily stepped down from his roles at Seven Queensland to focus on his defamation case against Nine media.
