Installing artificial turf can be a good way to create an aesthetically-pleasing and low-maintenance indoor or Sliding door space. If you’re interested in trying this for your yard, you can purchase high-quality materials from a reliable artificial turf supply company. Some suppliers offer artificial grass installation and design services. Here are six tips for installing artificial turf:

    Measure and Plan

Measure the area you want to install the artificial grass on so you’ll know the number of turf rolls you need. If your installation area has a non-rectangular or irregular shape, break it down into smaller sections and measure each separately. If you’re uncertain about the measurements, consult a reputable artificial turf supply company in your area for assistance. For example, if you’re planning your project in beautiful Bristol, consulting an artificial grass Bristol service might be a great option.

    Prepare the Area

Use a rake or shovel to clear the area of existing grass, rocks, vegetation, or debris. Check for any high or low spots on the surface and use a shovel or a leveling tool to remove or fill these areas. Dig out the weeds and their root systems to prevent them from growing through the turf later on. Installing a geotextile fabric can prevent weed growth and offer stability. After that, use a hand tamper or plate compactor to compact the soil, which helps reduce unevenness.

    Add a Base Layer

Add a base layer of decomposed granite or crushed stone to boost drainage and create a stable base for turf. You can also choose specialized base materials designed for artificial turf installations. Use a rake or shovel to distribute it uniformly to reach the desired thickness, depending on the soil condition. Once the base material is in place, compact the soil in multiple passes for better results.

    Install Edging

Edging helps secure the turf, prevent shifting or movement, and create a clean and professional finish. For your turf installation project, you can choose different edging materials such as wooden railway sleepers, plastic bender boards, metal, or treated lumber. If you’re using a plastic bender board, bend it to conform to the desired shape of the turf area. Cut and connect the pieces to form a continuous perimeter for metal edging or treated lumber. Dig a trench and place the edging, ensuring it’s firmly anchored.

    Lay the Turf

Roll out the artificial turf over the prepared area and allow for some overlap around the edges. Avoid dragging the turf across the base to help prevent displacement. Trim any excess turf using a sharp utility knife. Place the staples or nails along the perimeter and at the seams to keep the turf in place and reduce tripping hazards. You can use synthetic grass glue or double-sided seam tape to hold sections together and bond the turf to the surface. Allow the turf to acclimate to the surroundings for a few hours before continuing to the next step.

    Add Infill

Infill adds stability, support, cushioning, and aesthetic appeal to the turf. The proper infill can also boost drainage and help fibers stay upright. You can choose silica sand, rubber granules, or a combination of the two materials as your infill. Other types of infill have antimicrobial properties that can be a good option for improving hygiene in children’s playgrounds and pet areas. Add the right amount of infill depending on the pile height and pile density of the synthetic grass. Use a stiff bristle broom or power broom to brush the fibers and work the infill material into the turf.

Work with a Reliable Artificial Turf Supply Company

A reliable artificial turf supply company can offer quality synthetic grass and installation services. You can work with experts to measure your space, prepare the surface, and lay the turf. Invest in artificial grass for your lawns, pet areas, playgrounds, putting greens, rooftops, and patios.
